Complementary food
Adequate time
Around 6 months, your baby will be ready to explore new foods. It is important to wait until certain developmental milestones have been reached to begin complementary feeding: interest in food, disappearance of the extrusion reflex, good hand-eye coordination and being able to sit with minimal support.
Variety of foods
Gradually introduce different food groups, such as fruits, vegetables, cereals and proteins, to ensure that your baby gets all the nutrients necessary for good development.
Textures and consistency
As your child gets used to solid foods, gradually offer different textures and consistencies to stimulate oral and motor development. You can try purees, mashed foods and pieces suitable for your age, always calmly and respecting the signals of satiety, without forcing.
Patience and exploration
At first, your baby may show selective rejection or acceptance of certain foods. Be patient and keep offering a variety of options so you can explore and develop your preferences.
Maintain breastfeeding or formula
Complementary feeding does not replace breast milk or formula. At 6 months, continue offering your baby milk in the first place, as it continues to be his main source of nutrients until he is a year old.
